The brief was a familiar one and hard to satisfy: strength, stiffness, minimal drag, light weight, all at once. Armstrong took it to their America's Cup foil design partners, ran CFD across the whole mast and put the results under key team riders. The section that came out is optimized for the broad speed range riders actually see across disciplines, rather than tuned to one narrow target.
Construction
Premium Toray intermediate and high modulus carbon fiber, with titanium and 316L surgical stainless steel hardware at the connection — light, and highly corrosion-resistant over years of lake, river and coastal water.

Next to the other carbon masts
The Performance Mk II runs a thinner 13.8 mm section and the Performance X a 12 mm one, both of them narrower in size range. This is the broad one: six lengths, and the only mast we stock offered at 655 mm and at 1035 mm.
